Playing guitar can get to be frustrating in the beginning when you are trying to learn how to play. Reasons for this is because you really are not sure where to start.
Songs may appear to seem like easy songs to learn how to play when in reality they are hard songs to play. Also, this can be flip flopped. You may think that a song is hard to play when really it is not to hard. That is why I am writing this post – to help you choose songs to learn that are not too difficult to learn when you are just starting out.
The songs below which I list basically are just basic chords. Being able to play these songs is a great building block for your success as a guitar player.
9 Songs To Learn For A Beginner
1.) Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) by, Green Day.
2.) Burn One Down by, Ben Harper.

One of the most common errors I see people make when they are beginning to play guitar is how they hold a guitar pick. This error happens because most guitar players teach themselves how to play. Technical errors like this (holding a pick incorrectly) go over looked often.
The truth about playing with a pick is that it is one of the most important things to learn as a beginning guitar player. Picks come in many different styles, most of them are shaped in a rounded triangle. If you are just starting out that is what I would recommend using. Over time you can try out the different shapes of picks.
I’m writing this lesson for a right handed guitar player because I am right handed but you can easily implement it for a left handed player by simply just switching hands. Good luck and try your best to hold the pick properly. Holding a pick incorrectly can be a really hard bad habit to stop doing once your fingers are used to playing with one. So here’s the correct way for you…

Most songs use the basic major chords. Meaning, that the chords used in a lot of songs you learn for one song will be re-used over and over in songs that you are going to learn in the future.
Basic major chords consist of:
- A Major
- B Major
- C Major
- D Major
- E Major
- F Major
- G Major
If I were learning guitar starting today I would get going on those seven chords.
So Why Aren’t The Players Learning Their Chords? Many new guitar players get frustrated easily.
(1) Fingers hurt constantly.
(2) Fingers won’t reach frets.
(3) Things aren’t coming as easy for you as it did your friend.

Along with all of the other excuses people that start to play guitar have for why they are not practicing is the fact that their fingers start to hurt.
When you start to play and your fingers start to hurt don’t think that you are alone. Everyone who plays guitar had to start some where, and everyone who plays guitar had their fingers hurt from playing in the beginning of their journey as a guitar player.
It’s Good If Your Fingers Are Hurting
This is because if your fingers are hurting – you are practicing. So how long should you be practicing when you just start to play guitar? As long as your fingers will let you.
Your fingertips kind of work like a clock for your playing time as a beginning guitar player. Believe me I know. I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old.
